The Rotaract Club of Athens, in the name of solidarity for Syrian Refugees, visited the Hosting Center for Refugees in Eleonas!
Our Club continued the great social action which has been launched in order to help Syrian refugees in our country by collecting medical supplies and other necessities and payed a visit to the Hospitality Center in Eleonas the morning of October 18th.
A group of the Immigration Department was waiting for us in the Center. We discussed together with them and with the head of the Help Center Mrs. Anthi Karagelou about the major problems of the Center and the ways we could help.
In this visit were present: the President, Christos Katopodis, the Vice President, Maria Antoniou, our member George Michailidis, the member to be, Euterpe Michailidou and the honorary member Michael Alban, who contributed the most regarding the big donation of medical and pharmaceutical supplies (2,500 euros worth) made from the Hellenic Center for Disease Control & Prevention. Our visit lasted about two hours. We were toured inside the premises, we recorded the needs and talked wth the medical staff of the center.
The staff asked for our contribution to the construction of a dental office for the Center and our assistance in gathering clothing. The Rotaract Club of Athens, always responding with a high sense of responsibility to the problems facing our fellowmen, has already begun efforts to create the dental practice and invites all of you to contribute to this effort. On the 13th of November a fundraising event will take place in Acro club, in order to raise money and awareness. Furthermore, we are already in contact with Rotaract Clubs from Europe and the Middle East who wish to contribute financially to this project.
At the end of the meeting we renewed our appointment pledging to contribute directly and effectively to the needs requested of us.
